Infiniband is a Rarity Among Cloud HPC Providers

A new report from The Next Platform indicates that Infiniband is hard to find in HPC clouds.

Infiniband has been the interconnect of choice among every Top 500 list since 2009, with more than 37% of systems in the most recent Top 500 list using Infiniband.

Cloud HPC solutions, have been slow to adopt Infiniband. Advanced Clustering Technology’s cloud HPC solution is among the few HPC cloud solutions that features Infiniband interconnects.

Feroz Zahid explained the possible reasons for this in his SC16 Doctoral Showcase paper, “Realizing a self-adaptive network architecture for HPC clouds.”
